Stevenson: I know how he feels!

Next day we made a late start in the rain…We had now brought ourselves to a pitch of humility in the matter of weather, not often obtained except in the Scottish Highlands. A rag of blue sky or a glimpse of sunshine set our hearts singing; and when the rain was not heavy, we counted the day almost fair.

I visited Kotzebue Alaska many years ago in the late fall, after they had supposedly had perpetual sunshine for a few months and were nearing the time of perpetual darkness. I say supposedly because ever since the previous winter it had not stopped raining. While I was there the clouds split just a bit and the sun came out. Everyone came outside and just stared at it, silently. Then the sun was hidden again but everyone remained standing still as if unwilling to let it go.

Oh I know how that feels! Hey, maybe I'm really in Alaska - it would explain a lot.
